got my new computer up and running :) dont have the water cooler hooked up yet as I'm waiting on some nonconductive coolent (so that if i get a leak it wont fry my whole computer).
I had a little trouble getting the mainboard in... I had to replace the back panel of the case due to the crazy number of USB ports etc (the mb came with a special back panel). It didnt want to pop in right and as a result the mb wouldnt screw in right. Once getting that fixed the ram and processor went in without a hitch, the video card had a tough time fitting in, but other then that no real hang up in assembly... at least untill i put the data cable for my floppy drive in upside down (didnt even know that was possible... shows how old my drive is).
Windows didnt want to recognise my raid array (thats why i needed the floppy) untill I got it to load the drivers from the MB manufacturer... and for some reason windows doesnt want to run windows updater so im a little worried about that.
Once everything was up and running i downloaded and ran 3DMark '03... my old computer scored about 3000 points.... my new one got 22007 :D I tried to run '05 and '06 versions, but every time I tried to download the files they were corrupted :'( Current Mood: excited

was on the way to work, biking along nicely at about 40km/h... when a damn BEE flew down my shirt. now for those of you who dont know, im EXTREMELY phobic of bees, so needless to say this kinda freeked me out, i lost my balance and clipped the curb.
Ended up going over the bars, got 3 running steps in before my bike hit me and knocked me down. I ended up with a sprained left thumb, scrapped up left leg and some road rash on my right arm. all things considered (my speed, and the fact that it was rush hour on a very busy road), i think i got off damn lucky.
My bike however... broke the seat and one of the arm rests for my areo bars (brand new too) and i will likely have to replace the seat post and front fork as they are carbon fiber which has a nasty habit of sudden, catastrophic failure if they are damaged even slightly.
so tomorrow i will have to take the bike to the shop and get them to look at it and see if there is anything i missed Current Mood: ouchies

|week in review:
Wedneday: Said goodbye to super_elsbian
:( she had to go home to Halifax for the summer with her folks. Not going to be a fun 4 months, but I am really looking forward to september :D
Friday: Went to the end of year pot-luck for the speed skating club and had a GREAT time :D One last chance to chat with the other skaters before the off-season. What really surprised me was that I won the most improved skater in my section :D But the real highlight of the night was a visit by Kristina Groves
, who won two silver medals at the winter Olympics (one in the 1500m long-track, the other in women's team pursuit) :D She brought her medals for photos, I didn't have my camera with me but got one of the other master skaters to take one of me with her and they should email it to me soon. She started her speed skating at our club, that's why she came to see us. It was really inspirational to see the pictures she took while in Turino, now all I need to do is shave off 30 seconds and I can get one of those shiny medals of my very own. Current Mood: busy

|first week at Nortel :)
one week down, many, many to go :D
gah, so much reading to do... they gave me about 1000 pages to read for the week, didn't write any code at all because all my time was spent reading. Monday I got to meet my team tho, bunch of really nice people, got my computer set up teusday (really sweet 20" screen) but took several days to get passwords and stuff set up.
Got my new bike thursday night :D rode it in today (damn that's a long ride, fun but long)
Went home for the easter weekend, relaxed nicely and played a little City of Villians.
This week I hope to get starting coding, I should have a meeting with my manager sometime early this week to go over my role in the team and stuff like that. Should be a good week :) Current Mood: bouncy
